“Impact of Humanitarian Crises on Women and the Importance of Psychosocial Support

Humanitarian crises have a significant impact on women, as they cause long-term disruptions in all aspects of daily life, including housing, health, sanitation, leisure, and education. Crises can tear apart family relationships and affect social cohesion, leading to feelings of isolation, distrust, fear, anger, loss, and sadness. Prolonged exposure to disasters or conflicts is detrimental to physical and mental health if appropriate mitigation measures are not taken.

This is a part of the psychological support sessions provided by the Women’s Protection Center, affiliated with Al-Mesalla organization, in Sinjar, to a group of women in the city, with the aim of empowering them psychologically and socially, and reducing gender-based violence.

This is part of the “Improving Safety and Economic Opportunities for IDPs and Returnees” project implemented by Al-Mesalla organization in partnership with the International Rescue Committee (IRC).
